RURAL ADVOCATE

Penny is driven to help rural Australians because of her upbringing on the land in southern and central NSW, experiencing the vagaries of nature through extended periods of drought and bushfires whilst bearing the brunt of poor policies impacting rural enterprises and families.

She and her husband Bart (Greg) have 3 children who want a future in the rural and more remote areas of Queensland. Having studied Ag in Wagga Wagga with a passion for the land and people of rural Australia, Penny has been an avid advocate for farming families and communities through her professional and private life, evident through her leadership roles and involvement in politics.

Penny and her family have always been energetic members of the local community, from organising Pony Club rallies, competing at shows and rodeos to reaching state athletics and establishing the school netball team. Penny has always been involved with her community wherever she has lived and worked. Throughout her adult life she has been a volunteer with Cooktown Horse Sports & Bull Ride, the Cooktown Amateur Turf Club, Bicentennial National Trail and Malanda High School P&C.

Penny continues to work for a fair go and appreciation of the rural sector. She is committed to ensuring people have access to information to help improve their productivity, land condition and profitability. Her work enables her to collaborate with others to help inform policy makers and access support for rural communities struggling under incredibly restrictive legislation, difficult climatic conditions and financial instruments exacerbated by social expectations that are far removed from reality and practical application.

She feels it is a great privilege and responsibility to help provide humanitarian support, build confidence and give hope in the future to rural Australians.
